Promises of God - Part Eight
We will be looking at John 10:27-30, again. In verse 29, we read: "My Father, who hath given (gave) them unto me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand". In the Greek language the word "gave" is in the perfect tense which refers to an 'action' that has already happened in the past and is still having results to this day. You have heard the expression, "the gift that keeps on giving." If the writer wants to just talk about the fact of an action then they would use the 'aorist' tense. When the writer uses another tense this usually means that they are making a special effort to convey a special message to their reader. This would be like a carpenter who uses glue and nails to attach two boards together to make sure they stay together.
So not only are we in the clasp of the hand of Jesus but also in the hand of God the Father. We can rest and be assured knowing that the owners of these hands are the two persons of our Triune God (Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ, and God the Father).
